I'm Back With Purses and Shawls and Shrugs, OH MY

Well I am back. I have done a lot of knitting since my last post. I made a beautiful turquoise shawl that I finished in Roanoke, Va while I was at a conference. I also just finished a shrug which I am very proud of. I must admit it may be one of my masterpieces. In addition, I created a pattern for a new purse that I made for spring that has a flap.
Here we go. This is the shawl that I finished in Roanoke. I call it the Roanoke Rumba.

The next piece that I made was a brown felted purse. I have it in a boutique here in Petersburg, Virginia in Old Towne Petersburg called The Pink Scottie. The shop carries my designs.
The purse is made of brown wool with fun fur. It features dark brown bambo handles. It is fully lined.

This picture shows the lining in the bag.

This next purse is another one of my designs. The owner of The Pink Scottie wanted a purse that had more spring and summer colors. This felted purse is made with white wool, pink green and light beige Soya Yarn. It also includes pink, green and blue fun fur. It has a flap made with fun fur and Soya yarn.

This is the inside of the purse which is fully lined.

This is the back of the purse.

Finally, here is my shrug. It is made with the Lions Brand black Homespun yarn. The fringe is made of fushia, multi color beige and black Homespun yarn. This shrug can be warn a number of different ways, however I like wearing it criss-crossed in the back and creating a cowl neck in the front. I am still trying to think of a wonderful name for this piece. Do you have a suggestion? Feel free to email me.

I am now working on a purple shrug with beige purple and fushia fringe. As soon as I finish it I will post it as well.
If you are interested in purchasing any of these pieces or if you want a custom piece please feel free to email me.

Felted and Knit and Bags "Oh My"

Well this is one of the reasons why I have not posted lately. I have been knitting felted bags. Once I started felting, I just couldn't stop. This is the neatest thing, to knit a bag felt it and see the results.

This is my latest bag, I finished it a week ago. I call it "Black and Sassy". I am very pleased with it because it is my very own creation. It is made with the Patons Black Wool and the Black, Brown and White Fun Fur with the little fuzzy balls. I inserted a rectangle heavy plastic netting to make a hard bottom to the bag. I also lined the bag with gold and black zebra fabric. The handles I purchased from JoAnn Fabrics.

Here is the bag!

Here is what the lining looks like in the bag.

This is my first bag. I call it "An AKA Kind Of Bag". When I knitted this bag it was HUGE! I was wondering what it was going to look like felted. I really held my breath as I put it in the washer. Well, when I took it out and blocked it I was thrilled. Creating the handles was fascinating. I used Pink and Green Patons wool yarn. I really like Patons yarn it really felts up well.

This is the second bag that I made. I got the pattern from Ben Franklin and it was inspired by their Christmas bag. I call this bag "The Red Baroness".

The next purse is another one of my creations. After I made "The Red Baroness" I wanted a flap on my bag. So I made the next bag. I call it "Pink Passions". I made it out of Pink Patons and Multi Color Patons yarn. I used a really fun button of multi colored stones to accent the flap.

Here is the bag, Enjoy!

The next purse I am working on incorporates knitting with the new faux leather. I am going to start on it this afternoon. I am going to make it out of black yarn and the black multi color Trellis yarn that I used to make the poncho that is on this site. As soon as I am finished I will post it.
Until then, Stay Tuned, Here and Above!

New Shawls

Well I am finally back! I have been so busy with work and knitting that I haven't had time to post anything. I have been working on some wonderful purses. I am going to take pictures and post those this afternoon.

I miss not sharing my creations. You know, I even get ideas in my sleep. Well here are my latest shawls. This is my "Hot Momma Pink Shawl" and "Hat". I made it as a Christmas present for one of my clients.

This is the hat that I made to go with it.

Then "Green and Yellow Shawl" was made as a Christmas present for my dear friend Cheryl. Her favorite color is yellow so I created this shawl for her out of Yellow yarn and the Yellow and Green Fun Fur with the little balls in it. I am very proud of this one. It seems like every one I make for someone I want for myself. They say that the greatest gift is to give someone something that you want yourself and I believe that.

This is the front of the shawl.

This is the back of the shawl.

I wanted to create a Soft Pink and Brown shawl for myself that had a little flair to it. I added some Pink and Brown beaded tassels to this shawl for effect. I hope you like it. This is one of my midnight inspirations.

This is the back of the shawl. By the by, I made the Turquoise and Coral necklace that I am wearing. That was my jewelry design phase. I will have to create a blog that shows my jewelry.

On the shawl I put some beaded tassels to add a little flair for my shawl. This is a closeup of the beaded tassels.

This shawl was made with Brown yarn and Light Pink Fun Fur. It looks great with a Brown suite and a light Pink blouse.

This last shawl is one of my greatest creations. I call it "The Golden Fleece". You know like from Greek Mythology, Jason and the Golden Fleece. I have a client that wanted me to make a Beige shawl for her sister that had Gold in it. She wanted this for a Christmas present this year. She also wanted me to make one for herself. Well, I was up to the challenge and went to my favorite yarrn store, Ben Franklin. I found this wonderful Beige Fun Fur and the for the other yarn I used this wonderful Pantons Brilliant Beige yarn. This has the gold strans running through the yarn. It is absolutely beautiful and wonderful to knit with.

Here is the front of the shawl.

This is the back of the shawl.

Cheryl's Ladybugs and Shawl

Here is another pair of handwarmers that I made with the knifty knitter. I couldn't wait to make these. I made these for my dear friend Cheryl George. She wanted black and red and I found some wonderful black and red ladybugs to go on them. The buttons are handmade.

I made the handwarmers out of 100% wool. They feel wonderful on.

Here is another view of the handwarmers.

Here is a very popular shawl that I made. I made it out of chocolate brown fun fur and blue yarn. I usually make my shawls with two yarns because I like them to be warm. This shawl was commissioned by my friend Cheryl George. This is Cheryl modeling her shawl. Her eyes are closed. She must be enjoying how good the shawl feels, LOL.

This is the back of the shawl. As you can see it comes down to the hem of her skirt.

More Handwarmers and a New Shawl

Well, I showed my handwarmers off at work on last Friday and one of my co-workers asked me to make her a pair. She wanted a red pair. I went to my favorite yarn store, Michael's this weekend and found some wonderful red wool. If feels soooo good. I even bought some black because a dear friend, Cheryl George, wants a black and red pair. I found some wonderful hand made buttons at JoAnn Fabric to decorate the handwarmers. I am really pleased how these came out. To the right and below are the results.

The buttons on these handwarmers are little hand made hats.

You can really see the little hats in this picture. I like the addition of the buttons. I think it adds a nice touch. The black and red handwarmers are going to have black and red ladybugs on them. I can't wait to make them.

Well here is the shawl that a lovely lady named Kim Form commissioned me to make for her. I call it "The Kim". Here is Kim modeling the shawl. I delivered it to her today.

She wanted a shawl that she could wear to church and with jeans. She is really going to "work" this shawl. I am really pleased how it came out and I was so happy that she was excited and happy when she saw it. I made the shawl out of black fun fur.

I tell you it is a wonderful feeling when people love the work that you do. For me knitting is a labor of love and a gift from God. Knitting has really helped me to heal these last few months. "God is so good to me, God is so good to me. I don't serve him as I should, I don't deserve all of his good. So many things are not as they should be, but God is so good to me." Here is the complete song by Donald Vail and the Celebration Delegation, My Rhapsody Playlist

Here is the back of the shawl. I custom made the shawl to Kim's height and size. She looks fantastic in her new shawl!

Handwarmer's Anyone?

I have discovered handwarmers. When I describe them to people they look puzzled. However, there are many times when you need your hands covered, but you want your fingers free to pick up things, turn knobs in the car, ride a bike, etc. It may be cold enough to cover your hands, but not cold enough to wear gloves, thus Handwarmers. Below is a sample of my latest handwarmers.

I made these with two different typles of yarn, white and a black and white yarn that I had left from a scarf set that I made for my sister-in-law last year. When I found this pattern I couldn't wait to make them. After I made them I wanted to add something more to "Kick them up a notch" as my favorite chef Emeril would say.

The picture below shows a close-up of the Zebras that I put on the handwarmers.

I really enjoyed making these. I am finishing up a black pair for my mother that I will post tomorrow. I also have an order for a red pair that I found some wonderful little hats that I am going to put on them. I am also going to make a red and black pair for a dear friend and I found some great red and black ladybugs that I am going to put on them. As I make the handwarmers I am going to post them on my blog so stay tuned. If you are interested in some handwarmers feel free to email me at cynthiaknits@hotmail.com.

More Shawls

This is one of the first shawls that I ever made. I love red, it is my favorite color. This shawl is made with fun fur.

As you can see on the back I have weaved in some gold shells for an added touch. I can create this shawl in various colors. I also added some of these shells to the shoulder.

This is another one of my earlier shawls. I used two types of fur yarn a cream color and a white color. It really makes the shawl heavy and thick. The color is wonderful.

This is the back of the shawl.

I made this shawl with black, grey and white fun fur and solid white yarn. I love how it turned out because I used the double knit stitch.

This is the back of the shawl. You can really see the double knit stich effect.

Any of these shawls can be made in a wide variety of colors. I usually make my shawls with two yarns together. This makes them thick and it gives them an unusual shade. I recently made a shawl with chocolate brown yarn and orange fun fur. It turned out terrific. Before I got an opportunity to take a picture of it a lady bought it today. I plan to make another one.

If you are interested in any of these style shawls please feel free to email me at cynthiaknits@hotmail.com.

My Latest Creations

Here I have finally taken pictures of my latest creations.

This is a Poncho that I recently made. I used the Trellis yarn/ribbon that I found at Michael's. It was very easy to make. When I first started I wondered how this was going to fit. However after I sewed the shoulders and started putting on the fringe it really came together.

This poncho really looks good with black. For summer it also looks good with a blue silk sleaveless top and a white pair of pants. The possibilities are endless with this top, especially for evening wear.

A while back I wanted a shawl to go with jeans. I love to wear jeans on the weekend, especially after wearing suits to work all week. Here is my weekend shawl. When I started knitting this I couldn't stop so I got the great long points that I could throw over the shoulders.

A lady, Bonita, saw this shall and asked me to make it for her so I did. I customized it to her height and size. I was so proud to create it for her.

Cynthia Knits, October 19, 2006

I love to knit, it is a passion! I started knitting two years ago after a 20 year hiatus. My Aunt Elsie taught me to knit and crochet when my family and I came to Virginia to visit my mother's sisters every other year. She was so patient with me. When I would drop a stitch she would gently guide my hand and tell me what I did wrong. I will never forget those moments.

Now 20 plus years later I am knitting again Aunt Elsie. Everytime I start a new project I get excited. My favorite places to buy yarn are Michael's and Ben Franklin. Knitting helps me relax. Everytime I sit down I pick up my knitting.

On this blog I want to show my latest projects to those who are interested. I am also going to provide links to different pattern sites and yarn sites.

I hope you will visit often to see what I have done.
